I have heard many good things about Ann's from friends over the years. So, on a recent Friday night, my husband and I decided that we were finally going to stop in for dinner. When we arrived, we were able to be seated immediately. Our server was very nice and took good care of us. The decor of the restaurant has both old fashioned and modern style. The building itself appears to have been a house at one time. They have an outdoor patio that's perfect for a lovely dinner in the summer. My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed the food. We started out with an appetizer of the mozzarella marinara. The sticks were a decent size. For my meal, I had the stuffed shrimp, which was delicious. The shrimp is butterflied and stuffed with crab meat, and is topped with a buttery glaze. It is served over garlic butter egg noodles and spinach fettuccini. They are generous with the portion sizes. I was not able to finish all of my meal. My husband had the chicken parmigiana, which he said was very good. I highly recommend getting an order of their garlic bread. It is very buttery and has just the right amount of crispiness to it (not too much and not too little). I have been told that the pizza here is fantastic. Therefore, I will have to make a return trip here and check it out :-)

Pizza is really good. The eggplant medallions are good too. That's about all I've ever had there. This place is like top 3 in Milwaukee area pizza in my opinion. Looks like they might have a decent wine selection if you're fancy enough for that kinda thing.

Enjoyed a glass of wine in the foyer as there is no bar. We didn't have a reservation. 20 minute wait at 7pm on a Friday. Not bad, but no bar? The marinara that accompanied the fried eggplant appetizer was delicious. Wife had lobster ravioli in a garlic butter sauce. Very good. For me, a big bowl of pasta with clams and calamari. Seafood was fresh but a little chewy. Tasty. The pizzas looked terrific. I'm pretty sure we will go back for one.

Loved everything about this plate. Service was great, food excellent, wine choices also very good.

Pizza is arguably the best in Southeast Wisconsin. Prices are on the high side, but this isn't Little Cesars.

GARLIC BREAD!!! Need I say more? Ok what else? Great food, great service, unique building - a Hales Corners staple. Right on par with That's Amore.

My family and I love Anns. Great food, great service. And if you have kids with allergies, the chef is very informative.

Went in at about 9:30 on a Saturday night and asked if they were still open, as Yelp says they are open until 11:30pm. The hostess, who also ended up being our waitress, just kind of shrugged her shoulders as she led us to our table, never really providing an answer.. She didn't appear mad, or happy, exactly, just uninterested, maybe? She was friendly and did smile, but wasn't very talkative like most servers are. Ordering went smoothly. I asked about the garlic bread and she said it would feed 4 people. There were three of us. We got the garlic bread, a large Tuscan Chicken pizza, 2 beers and a coke. The garlic bread came and it was delicious. My dinner companions would have preferred it much more crispy, but I'm more about it having flavor than being crispy (growing up, we used to put that garlic butter stuff in the jar on white bread and bake it for a few minutes, so I'm used to soft/soggy garlic bread). It was the equivalent of one order of garlic bread from say, Mama Mia's, cut into 8 slices, thus 2 pieces per person for 4 people. The pizza was good; chicken, red onions, tomatoes, green peppers, and mushrooms. I'm a picky eater, so I only ate the chicken and mushrooms and it was enjoyable. Was it $30 enjoyable? Honestly, no. Reason #1 for the 3 star review. Reason #2: the beer glasses came to the table warm...like fresh out of the dishwasher warm. The server really should have caught that. So, would I come here again? Yes. I need to try a "regular" pizza, not a specialty one. I would also like to try one of their pasta entrees. 74/2014/79

I've finally tried Ann's after wanting to go for months. I found out they were dog friendly, so that made me want to go that much more. I called ahead to let them know I would be bringing my Labrador, and when we got there they had a table all set for us out on the patio and it was beautiful! The service couldn't have been better! We tried the stuffed shrimp, mostacholli, and ravioli with braised beef and they were all amazing! I will definitely be going back to try the pizza and lobster ravioli. This place was so charming.

I've been going to Ann's for years. This has to be THE best pizza in town. Treat yourself to the perfect combination in pizzadom - a large Pepperoni and Onion. The flavors of the sweet singed tip'd 'roni with the sweet onions bathed in the tasty homemade pizza sauce is out of this world. Damn I'm getting hungry...

Never even made it into the dining room. Called to make a reservation and spoke to a rude person. Then when we arrived and the hostess saw that 2 of the people in our party were young children, we were basically told that perhaps we would be happier at a "family" restaurant. Will NEVER set foot in there again.

Pizza is good when hot and fresh! Suggest not getting it to go. Prices are very very high for a pizza. We ordered a med pizza that was $19.25. Good but not worth the price especially when you carry out!

I've been going to Ann's for years because the food is generally good, however the service and arrogance of the place is getting progressively worse. There last night, ordered appetizer, salad and pizza. The place was not that busy since it's the day before a holiday but it was taking very long to get the appetizer. Then, instead of an appetizer they brought out the pizza. I asked the waitress where the appetizer and salad was and she said, sorry, she forgot about those two items, but would I like them now? Barely an apology, no offer to give anything off the bill, free drinks or free dessert. I left the restaurant still hungry. I'm not a person that tries to get free things but I do believe strongly in customer service and therefore, when you screw up, you take care of your customer. I will not be going to Ann's again. There are a lot of great pizza and Italian restaurants in the area with better service and food that is equally as good. The owner, who acts as the host, can also be very rude. Some days he is very nice, others you wonder how he can run a restaurant because he is short and not friendly with the customers. I guess customer service starts from the top, so not surprising how the waitress reacted considering how the owner can act.

We went here for my husbands birthday. Great service & drinks, garlic bread was phenomenal... Buttery and warm and oh so good! We've been to that's amore down the street and I think this place is so much better!!

I've been going to Ann's for years, and see no reason to stop in the near future. I always get the pizza, and have never been disappointed. I'm not super fussy - but like many, I'm a creature of habit and when I find an item that I truly enjoy, I tend to order it again next time. I've dined with others that have ordered entrees, and honestly, they don't seem to be anything all that special. Not bad, just not special. I tend to eat out on the early side when compared to prime time, and would not even attempt to go here in prime time, with or without a reservation. Just me I guess, because you routinely see people standing outside waiting to get in as I'm driving by on my normal commute. Overall the service has been very acceptable, but busy times can leave them short staffed. It's a little pricey, but what isn't these days. The pizza has a cracker crust, sweet rich tomato sauce with excellent seasoning, not overbearing at all. Toppings are properly proportioned. I feel the pizza's worth the cost. When I have a craving for a good cracker crust pizza, I'll drive past several other places that offer pizza just to get to Ann's.

More consistent then Bret Fave retirment act! Nice wholesome place, so the "You say Tomato, I say Fuck you" t-shirt is not appropriate. On a scale of 1-100 peperonni's.... it's an 82!

Another visit another wonderful meal. Retuning to Ann's is like going home, but better. Tonight we had the pike, only available on Friday's, a wonderful "Milwaukee Friday Favorite," but Ann's Italian brings it up a notch.

Best pizza in all SE Wisconsin. That's correct. Been going there since 1990. Plus, their other fare has attention to detail. Belissimo!

  • Paul S.

Been going there since I was a child, and my parents have been going there since the place only had four tables. Jeff keeps an amazing restaurant with rich cuisine, (Calamari is a must), and incredible cracker crust pizza. I personally found the wait staff to be very attentive, and totally on top of it,. They accomodated our every need, and our nieces every need! (All three of them!) Make sure you get reservations, and make sure you come hungry. Ann's is really a hidden gem that shouldn't be as hidden! Enjoy a nice hike at Whitnall, build up an appetite, and enjoy!

The food was very good! Their fresh pasta dishes my favorite. The mushroom ravioli is to die for. My husband had the veal dish and loved every bite. The portions are generous, but not too much. The dining room was elegant and cozy. Lots of laughter among the tables and wait staff. Very friendly atmosphere. We'll definitely be coming back again.

Went here last night for an early dinner because the people who I was going with said it filled up fast - they were absolutely right. We got there at 5 and by 530 the entire lobby was full We ordered a large super deluxe pizza and it was definitely enough for all three of us with plenty for leftovers. I'm really in love with the crust which stayed crispy with all our toppings even in the middle. I'd say it's definitely one of the better pizzas I've had in Milwaukee.

This is another review where I look at the text next to the star rating and agree. Ann's is A-OK in general. This review will mainly consider the pizza. Why? Because Pizza is awesome. When we think dining options we don't usually think of or go out of our way to go to Hales Corners. Which is a shame to anyone that is a foodie in Hales Corners. It's just not known for dining. Maybe that Around the Corner program on channel 10 can enlighten me. If you are in the area Ann's does a good pizza. Good thin crust. I've had your standard pepperoni, sausage, onion and green pepper. As of my few last visits I've had a pizza made with Tuscan Chicken, Bacon and onions. It's pretty awesome. To be honest I am really not excited about the prices here. If I am spending more I want to taste it. Outside of the pizza everything I have had is forgettable. I had to stop and ask myself "What in the world did i eat as appetizers?". The Calamari? Oh yeah. Not good. You can pass on that. The eggplant cutlets can be passed and the motz is ok. I really have a hard time elaborating on forgettable things. Nothing about the service here is outstanding. They do an ok job but I was never impressed. I never said to a complete stranger "Hey man! Ann's has awesome service!!" especially out of context and spontaneously. That's how you can gauge a five star experience.... you can't help but mention it for no apparent reason. So a good example of random five star experience dialogue would be "Aww man. I'm sorry that your wife threw you out and had your car towed. That sucks. You know what doesn't suck? My dinner last night at Jackson Grill" Then you can talk about awesome steaks! I go to Ann's when the family has the idea to go there. I've been there a lot and should I read that it closes down it wouldn't hurt my feelings. I'd say "Yeah that pizza was alright" and move on with life. If you never venture outside of Hales Corners because you are afraid of the world then I am sure Ann's is the Pizza choice. Preferably in take out form. But certainly there has to be a better option? I have to laugh I intended to write a better review but as I drone on and on I can't help but not like it. I am not going to modify this in anyway. I want to show that just thinking about Ann's mediocrity makes me disinterested. Again if you are from here and have no choice then I am sure Ann's seems like a 4 star choice. I think it tap dances on the 2-3 star line. I'll give it three because if someone sees I gave Brick 3 a 4 star rating and then dumped on Ann's people won't take me seriously at life. We'll just keep that our little secret ;)

I grew up in the Milwaukee area and the fallback for, "Where should we go to dinner tonight?" was often, Ann's. We have celebrated birthdays, graduations, anniversaries, a wedding rehearsal dinner, etc., and they can always accommodate. The owner, Jeff, is fantastic, friendly, and overall someone that knows what has made his business a success and keeps it that way. Pizza is a family favorite there. Often we start off with the eggplant or garlic bread. You really can't go wrong here. All of their other food is delicious as well, but we are all about their pizza.

Great food, great pricing and excellent service. Their pizza is very good as well as their fish fry. We love this place.

The food is good, whether it's an Italian entree or a pizza, it's all really good. The caprese salad, the cheesy garlic bread, and the other appetizers are all excellent. And it's all good with a bottle of wine. The only knock I have is that the prices are a little high.

I've had more flavorful pasta from a lean cuisine. The ambience is very old school supper club, it looks like they are stuck in the past with their decor and food. The glasses are old, presentation of the food is very old (A sprig of parsley on a doily lined plate), and there are paper placemats on plastic table-clothed tables. Oh and they play the regular radio-commercials and all-over the meal service. Our service was fine, our server was kind, fast, and diligent which was about the only good thing here. The food. I ordered the penne vodka sauce pasta with chicken. Before the meal we received salads...iceberg lettuce with some sliced carrots and an unappetizing tomato wedge served with our dressing in a plastic cup..cheap. The garlic bread is completely unimpressive, no flavor no creativity, a roll sliced in half broiled with butter and parsley. The pasta was completely overcooked, I could tell just by looking at it. I could roll it into a ball it was so overcooked. The vodka sauce had absolutely no flavor and was very thick. The chicken seemed as if it was pre-made and just heated up, again it had no flavor. I took a few bites and was done with the dish. I'm told the pizza is decent here but I will not be returning to find out. Seems like a restaurant that is afraid to change and could need a HUGE facelift in decor and food quality. Might want to call in a young chef to spruce up the menu and make things from scratch as well as an interior designer.....Sad that people think this is good italian food :(

Have been coming to Ann's for over 25 years. This place just gets it. Excellent service, excellent CONSISTENT quality. They have recently added another dining room, and it's simply beautiful. The ambiance here is perfect for couples or small groups with friends. They do accommodate large parties, however I wish they didn't! It changes the dynamics of the place when they do, however they normally try to stick the large parties in a room by themselves which helps. Drinks - A+ In summer try the sangria's they are to die for! Pizza - A+ Ravioli - A+ Lasagna - A+

Let me begin by saying that I've never been a dine-in customer at Ann's and have only ordered pizza to go. Every single time I've ordered from Ann's the pizza has been great, and even with the picky members of my friends and family there have never been any complaints. Service has always been good enough for the 2 minutes I've been in the restaurant each time for pick up and the staff seems very friendly.

Saw them smoking cigarettes in the kitchen. Imagine what we don't see...had the Tuscan chicken pizza, average tasting, however gave me rancid gas for two days.

Ann's has been consistently good for over 20 years. It has been one of my family's favorites for many years. I'm extremely partial to the meatball sandwich. Don't ask me why, it's just always good. Their pizza is ok. Usually I get my sandwich, but occasionally I'll eat pizza. I really can't say I care for the peperoni they use. It's very smoky. But overall it's still good. We've never had a problem with service, but then again, we've known most of the people working there for a long time.

  • Sue S.

Ann's has great food and the atmosphere is great, but....the host always seems a bit rude. That is an understatement when I recently ordered a takeout pizza. The conversation went something like this: Ann's: "Hold" Me: "OK" Ann's: "Go Ahead" Me: "Id like a large pizza with..." Ann's: "Whose it for?" Me: "Jane. Wait, Sam will be picking it up." Ann's: "I'll put both, see you at 6:15." Hang up ! Where was the Greeting or the Goodbye? I didn't get a chance to ask how much it would be. I know it must have been busy but, it was uncalled for. Even though the food is great, I don't think we'll be back there for a long time.

Good pizza, inconsistent service. My mom, brother and I had planned to go there on Mother's Day this year. My brother had called to ask about making a reservation the day before and had been told to call back at 4:00 pm on Mother's day to get a reservation for dinner. Strange we thought, but we followed directions. We waited around until 4:00 and when we called they informed us that there were no more reservations available for that night. I explained the situation and what we had been told and the person on the phone made no effort to appease us at all. He simply said we could come in after 8:00 pm and probably get a table. Probably needless to say we went elsewhere. They do have really good pizza, but I was very put off by that experience.

Ann's Italian is a charming little restaurant. Very popular locally, reservations are definitely recommended if you don't want to have to wait when you arrive. Built into a house, the interior is relatively small, which helps to explain why reservations are recommended. The food is above-quality fare, particularly the pizza. Unfortunately, it has always struck us as a little bit on the pricey side. We're used to somewhat slow service here, pretty consistently over the years. They've been short-staffed on at least one visit, where I clearly remember taking pity on a poor waitress who was doing a horrible job of serving us - because she was running herself ragged handling everybody. While I normally tip less when the service is poor, I cannot fault a server who is clearly putting her all into attempting the impossible, and I would guess most customers would be tipping poorly despite the effort, so I always leave a large tip for such an unfortunate waitress. Happens rarely enough that it's memorable when it does, alas, and this and the cost are why I can't give Ann's top rating. We have a number of relatively expensive pizza places in the area, and Ann's definitely ranks among the best, and it does one heck of a carry-out business. This may be the best way to experience Ann's.

People bashing Ann's you have had one bad experience, choose something that is reco'd and don't eat in if your looking for world class overpaid waiters from Olive Garden, the staff is mostly part time help working in a family business... breathe a little.... order take out from Ann's in a traditional fashion. Ann's is a hometown favorite for their Pizza for me, they have thick cheese that some people don't get, but its just a great consistency, right blend, and the sauce is rich on the tomato side (which is a favorite of mine) so it tastes more natural and rich then spicy and mixed. Add the crust and you get a great crispy treat. I have also eaten in the dining area on a few occasions, its very well done in the inside despite the outside design and they serve moderate portions for the price. I think they are priced medium in the Italian small foods of Milwaukee, so fair. Good place to take a special someone for a sit down bite. Service as I mentioned is average, these are not career college students or people earning a massive stash of cash, just relax.... lol I would recommend reservations and calling in a pizza order ahead of time, they get swamped. Due to Holz Motors and their car empire they kinda squash Ann's to the side so parking can be iffy. I have to mention this place does light up when they open in the evening so grab your spot in line... If I could date this restaurant, I would. If your into an original take on some of your fav dishes why not. Try the cheese pizza though, I have never found another like it personally... its in my top 5 of all time

Went for dinner here today and received TERRIBLE service and worse food. The server consistently delivered the wrong food to the wrong people. 4/8 ordered cheese on their garlic bread that came with the meal ($2.50) so apparently that means the whole table wants cheese on the bread. The same half that ordered the cheese got water with their dinner, and the other half got nothing. HALF the table gets water? The entree was overcooked frozen pasta in a tiny little boat thingy with crappy sauce. As soon as we paid the bill the server was in a huge hurry to forget we tipped her and never came back to fill water or ask if we might want another drink while we talk. One star for the fried mushrooms.

I never got to order anything but a beer, there was not one item on the menu that did not use dairy. Being casien intolerant....looks like a nice place, and it smelled nice. If you are lactose intolerant, bring some lactace with you.

My favorite Italian restaurant. I've been there many, many times and the food and service is always excellent. Try the eggplant cutlet appetizer. It is to die for. Thin eggplant rounds with a panko crumb crust, lightly deep fried and served with parmesan cheese sprinkled on top, lemon and a dish of their mouth watering marinara sauce. Their sauce is so good they should serve it in a glass so you can drink it. Also had a pizza on our last visit. They make a med./thin crust that is light and airy and crisp. Not doughy which I don't care for at all. Their italian sausage is some of the best I've ever had. We got the deluxe which has italian sausage, onions, and mushrooms. Delicious!!! I've got left overs in the fridge that I'm going to be heating up tonite. Can't wait!!!

We've gone here for dinner twice, now, and have had a good meal with pleasant service both times. Quick request to Ann's on my behalf - offer some cheaper wine! It's just wine, and the cheapest glass I saw was $7. (Cheapest bottle was $26) It's not a cocktail. You're just pouring it. I understand having more expensive options, but what about the cheapos like me? I opted to just have water since we were already going with several courses for dinner. That being said, I've learned that when going to Ann's, you should dine the Italian way. Slowly, with several courses, surrounded by friends or family, sharing a bottle of wine, and with minimal fret over the bill. Hold on, I'm afraid I'm giving the impression that they're super expensive. They're not! You can certainly get away with not emptying your bank account to eat here. The atmosphere combined with our mood both times just encouraged us to... "go ahead, get the extra appetizer. Why not?".... Ya know? They're tucked back a little bit from highway 100, but once you manage to find them, Ann's is a place to visit.

This place has some of the best pizza. My wife and I are big Chicago style pizza fans and they don't do Chicago pizza, and yet its on our top pizza list. We have never had any of the other dishes there as if from the pizza. That being said why would you order the chicken at a great steak joint.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.

Pizza

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.
